Yesterday, my husband and I took our two dogs for a walk along a trail that ends at the bay. He was not quite himself. “What’s wrong,” I nudged.

“Nothing,” he replied. He’s a guy after all.

“Something,” I prodded, ’cause I’m a woman after all.

“Well, I feel like summer is already over and I haven’t had the chance to enjoy it.”

“Honey, it’s only May 15!”

But I understand his feelings. Our days, our weeks, our months feel so full of work and kids and obligations that long days of summer fun feel like something from a distant past. This summer, we are committed to bringing back that sense of easy, breezy summer. And it’s going to start with the clothes we wear.

Founded in 1901, Hanes knows a lot about comfort and relaxed summer days. The first company to banish tags, Hanes is always on the hunt for new technology, fabrics and ideas to help keep the entire family comfortable. And, as the t-shirts behind a thousand rock concerts and a million Disney visits, they know a lot about summer fun.

Recently Hanes invited celebrity stylist Lara Backmender to share top summer trends with 300 crazy-busy, multi-tasking social media moms. After reminding us that comfort is confident and that summer fashion should be fresh, fun and comfortable she gave us the blueprint for our summer wardrobe. If we want to be on trend, that is.

#1: Throwback to the 90s. But before you freak out, think slip dresses in comfortable fabrics layered with a t-shirt. Slip on some sandals and you are good to go.

#2: All white. White shorts or capris, a white hoodie and a pair of kicks will have you out the door and looking fresh and summery.

#3: Florals. Don’t overdo it … we loved the floral pants Laura paired with a comfortable t-shirt and slouchy sweatshirt.

#4: Exposed shoulders. Yup, you’ll need the right bra to pull this off. Don’t worry, Hanes has that too.

#5: Metallics. All right, I confess that for most of us, a short metallic mini is not exactly what we’ll be putting on to hit the park, but I love the idea of working a little metallic into my summer look with just the right belt, sandals or bag. Keep the shine subtle and fun.

The clothes we wear should reflect the way we live. And this summer, let’s keep it cool, comfortable and confident.
