Cooking's Cool!

By Allison Rebenack July 20, 2010

Kids love reading and being read to.  Kids also love eating and helping in the kitchen.  Author Cindy Sardo identified that early passion in little chefs and authored a series of children's books entitled Cooking's Cool.

Before she became a full-time mom and author, Cindy was a 4th grade teacher.  Rachael Ray's Yum-O! organization inspired her to author children's books focused on healthy cooking and eating.  Yum-O! is a nonprofit organization started by Rachael Ray in 2006 to empower kids and families to develop healthy relationships with food by teaching them to cook.  Cindy, at the time, was struggling with her youngest daughter's extremely picky eating habits.  Yum-O! prompted her to take action to help her daughter and inspired the creation of both the Mrs. Sheff and the Cooking's Cool series.

Mrs. Sheff is a delightful and magical teacher who shows her students how to prepare healthy delicious meals as part of their everyday lessons.  Cindy's stories about Mrs. Sheff and her class have seasonal themes.  Each story follows Mrs. Sheff and her class through a day of lessons.  At the end of the day, her students enthusiastically gather to find out the rainbow recipe they will prepare.  In her Winter story, the students prepare warm, hearty soups.  In the Fall story, the class makes veggie quesadillas and Ratatouille Pasta. All of the stories include several delicious recipes that have been and approved by Cindy's three daughters, family and friends.

Her latest book, Cooking's Cool in the Summer was published in June.  In the story, the students return to the school yard for Harvest Day to pick and prepare a rainbow recipe from the fresh picked produce.

We have a 4 pack seasonal series of Cooking Cool to give away!  (Cooking's Cool in the Summer, Cooking's Cool in the Fall, Cooking's Cool in the Winter and Cooking's Cool in the Spring)
