Macaroni Kid chats with Jada Pinkett Smith

The Voice of Gloria From Madagascar 3 (And Super-Mom)

By Nicky Hemby July 3, 2012
With Madagascar 3 smashing up the box office, and still playing across the Country (a great option during the holiday week), Macaroni Kid had the chance to chat with Jada Pinkett Smith about voicing Gloria the Hippo from Madagascar 3, motherhood and life.

Macaroni Kid: How do you balance your film career and your family?

Jada Pinkett Smith: I have taken some time out to be with my family.  It's so very important to not let that time pass you by.  Each moment, each day is so precious.

MK:  How do you find time for yourself?  With Madagascar 3, motherhood and all the other projects your are working on?

JPS: I work very hard on taking care of my spirit.  It's not about time, location and or hours you put into yourself.....it's about spirit.  As women, we need to do what we have to in order to keep our spirit alive.  That means working on amazing films like Madagascar, taking time for our families and taking time for ourselves.

MK: Your acting career has been so successful.  How does that carry over to say Jaden and Willow?

JPS: Will and I have a very strong work ethic.  We allow both Jaden and Willow to develop their own sense of self and artistic flare.  There have been times, such as in the Karate Kid in Jaden's case where as a mother, I felt he was pushing himself too far.  But I needed to take a step back and realize that he knows his own limits and trust that we have instilled in him the ability to draw the line.  Willow's music and Jaden's acting have been total confidence builders for them and we fully support that!

MK:  Would you do a Madagascar 4?

JPS: In a minute!  The best crew!  Brilliant writers!  And working with Chris?.....a painless job
