Gifts for the Grandma Who Has Everything

By Joyce Shulman May 7, 2013
Mother’s day gifts for your mother? Not easy! Sure, you can take her out to brunch or create yet another mug adorned with your kids’ mugs, but isn’t it time for something different?   Here are our top Mother’s Day picks for the grandma who has everything.

The perfect book is always welcome and here are three we love:

Girlfriends Forever by Reeda Joseph. Sure husbands and boyfriends are great but girlfriends are essential. Girlfriends Forever is a collection of witty advice in colorful “Mad Men” era glory that every lady needs to celebrate the bonds of friendship.

If it's not one thing, it's your mother! Heartwarming and humorous, Mom’s the Word by Allen Klein gathers some of the best things anyone ever said about motherhood. From Dolly Parton to Dear Abby to delightful mother daughter duos such as Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson, women (and a few men) crack wise on the subject of the center of every family.

Why not help grandma cook for you … even long distance!  The Flying Brownie by Shirley Fan is a cookbook dedicated to food that is made to be shipped long-distances. It includes 100 recipes for homemade food gifts, plus suggestions on how to ship them, estimates on how long they'll keep, and even postal and customs regulations for shipping food.

For moms who like to keep their do done, how ‘bout a patterned, bedazzled shower cap?  Beloved by stars including Sharon Stone and Julia Roberts, snazzy bejeweled shower caps by Dry Divas have seriously tickled our fancy.  $26-$30.

And when she gets out of the shower, let her wrap up in something made from 100% certified, organic cotton: a gorgeous, soft kimono robe from Canopy, a new line from Portico. $49.99

Time for a little Creativi-Tea?  Numi's Artisan Tea Blending Kit lets mama mix up a tea that is just to her liking with an assortment of organic teas, herbs, fruits, flowers and spices delivered with a handmade glass teapot.  She can experiment with blends, discover new tastes and create her own signature blend – and then invite you over for tea time.  $39.99.

Then make tea time complete with cookies and macaroons from Crème Delicious, whose beautiful sweets are hand-decorated in a style inspired by ancient artistry of body art - "Henna."  Each piece is hand decorated and utterly unique.  And deliverable! $25.

Feeling fruity? We love this Mother's Day Blueberry Basket from The Fruit Company a pretty woven basket filled with blueberry shortbread cookies, gourmet blueberry/lemon white chocolate bar, chocolate covered blueberries and fresh apples and pears. ($59.95) and Edible Arrangements has an assortment of special baskets for Mother’s Day from a Mother's Day Bouquet with chocolate dipped strawberries to their Lovely Indulgence Berries Box for grandmas who like chocolate. ($35-$109).

Whistler Naturals promises to give grandma's skin new life with active and organic ingredients.  I don't know about that, but the scents and feel of these products are, well, luscious is the word that comes to mind.  Our two favorites: Vanilla Silk Sugar Scrub and Buttercream Icing Body Butter, though the White Chocolate Hand & Body Lotion looks pretty delicious too.  $13.98-$15.98
