Avocado Green or Chocolate Brown?

Readers...We Need Your Help!

By Eric Cohen - Macaroni Dad July 2, 2013
I love avocados, and I love chocolate. They are great to eat, but they are awful decorating themes for bathrooms. I guess in the early 80's it was tres chic, but today it's a faux pas.

So here are pictures of our current bathrooms. We can only renovate one at a time, so which one do we do first? We are asking you to leave a comment below with which one you think needs to go sooner.

In the meantime, everyone always says things take twice as long as you think...and of course no matter what you tell yourself "everyone" is always right. We are making progress, we've cleared some trees, replaced a window well for the basement (2 more to go), rebuilt the steps off the kitchen sliding door, got the header in and installed a new washer & dryer (over the newly tiled laundry room floor). But boy is there still a lot to do. The basement we hoped to have finished is still just framing and rough electic, the addition plans have not been submitted to the building department and the list goes on.

There was one thing that shocked me, and I was thrilled to take care of it right away. There was no smoke alarm in the kitchen! As a volunteer firefighter, I've been to my share of kitchen fires and was amazed to see this. Fortunately a while back First Alert sent me one of their Atom smoke detectors and it came in very handy. I popped it up in about a minute and now it's there, totally innocuous and practically invisible. They also gave us a Tundra Fire Extinguising Spray that now lives under the sink, just in case. These are products hopefully we'll never use, but are glad they are there.

And last week my in-laws saw the house for the first time since we moved in. My Mother-in-Law could not stop saying "It's completely overwhelming. There's so much to do."  So help us knock one thing off the list. The question is...which bathroom goes first? Chocolate? Or Avocado? We appreciate the help!
