Make Up in Five

By Joyce Shulman October 7, 2014
Leave it to accomplished make up artist and mom of two Debra Rubin-Roberts to know what moms need: a polished but simple look that can be had in 5 minutes or less.

After Debra’s second child was born, she realized that her old make up routine was just not going to cut it. “I laid out all the products I used and counted them,” she explains. “There were 13 of them.” In that moment, Debra decided to create a better way and Mommy Make Up was born.

I recently had the chance to try out her Pretty-n-Polished Make Up Kit which contains six products designed to get you pretty and polished in five minutes. It took me seven, but that’s seriously not bad.

Naturally, the first thing I did was lay it all out on my counter: Mommy’s concealer, powder, eye shadow, mascara, blush and lipgloss with built in liner. Then I got to work.

I started with my own foundation, then dug deep into the concealer (what can I say, I’ve been low on sleep these past few weeks), used the little “Paint by Number” instructions for applying the eye shadows, added a little blush and topped it all off with powder, mascara and lip gloss. Voila. From this to this in seven minutes:

All of the products were great and the plan was simple, but I would be remiss in not giving special love to the Mommy's Kisses Lipliner and Lipgloss in One. This little beauty contains a fantastic lipgloss with a matching lipliner right in the lid! I have always loved the way a little lip liner helps to shape my lips but I confess it was one of the first casualties of motherhood because really it was just one more thing to keep track of. Having the lip liner tucked into the lid of the lipgloss? A game changer for me.

The Pretty-n-Perfect kit is $125 and is available on http://www.mommymakeup.com. All products, including my beloved Mommy's Kisses Lipliner and Lipgloss in One, are also available ala carte.
