Review: Vital Theatre's 'Fancy Nancy The Musical'

October 4, 2012
Vital Theatre (the producers of Pinkalicious the Musical and Angelina Ballerina the Musical) kicked off their new season with Fancy Nancy the Musical this weekend. My daughter and I were invited to the premiere and we both loved every minute of the performance.  They bring Fancy Nancy to life just as you would have imagined her.  As we left, my daughter asked when she could come back to see it again.  Since the show is only playing Saturdays and Sundays, plus Columbus Day, through Nov 12th, we probably won't be able to make it back, but I encourage anyone with a little girl to get tickets to see the show this month!

When Nancy and her friend Bree find out their ballet class will be putting on a show called "Deep Sea Dances" they deck themselves out in the most extravagant homemade mermaid costumes and imagine themselves performing the lead roles in the show.  They are devastated when they find out Nancy will be playing a tree and Bree an oyster. It takes some convincing from Mom along with the magical powers of a tea party to cheer them up.   But the happiness doesn't last for long!  Nancy is once again crushed when Savannah, who was picked to be the mermaid, injures her foot and Bree is chosen to replace her. You have to see the show to find out how Nancy deals with the news and the big performance!   The show isn't all glitter and ballet!  Their friend Lionel does a show stealing "Shark Rap" and Rhonda and Wanda have some fun sparring over who is the better athlete.

We were fortunate to have Jane O'Connor, the author, was at our show happily signing books and posing for pictures! After the show, the cast lines up in the lobby to sign autographs and pose for pictures.  My daughter put on her pink feather boa and was thrilled to strike a pose with the tres magnifique cast!
