Get Outside! The Outsideologist Project from the Makers of Claritin®

The Outsideologist Project makes getting outside fun for kids ... enter to win!

By Traci Walter, publisher of Macaroni KID Lower & Upper Bucks, Pa. July 16, 2021

The goal of The Outsideologist Project is to get 1.2 million kids to spend an extra hour outside each week!

I've always been one to look for the silver lining in a situation. While many of our usual activities have been canceled due to the pandemic, one major bright spot for me? Getting my family back outside.

My children range in age from 6 to 14, so finding outdoor activities that appeal to the whole family can be a challenge. As it turns out, I’m not alone: a new survey from the makers of Claritin® found 72 percent of parents believe their family doesn’t spend enough time outside.

When they do get outside, 49 percent of parents report their kids find the outdoors boring.  This stat makes me think of my own kids and the cacophony of moans that I hear any time I say we’re going for a hike.

Statistics like these are why the makers of Claritin® launched The Outsideologist Project, a multi-year initiative with the goal of getting 1.2 million kids to spend an extra hour outside each week.

The Outsideologist Project provides families with tips and expert-guided activities on The Outsideologist Project Facebook page and The Outsideologist Project Instagram page to bust boredom and foster a love of the outdoors.

Outdoor time makes for quality family time

Equipped with our Outsideologist kit, my son, Cooper, and I wasted no time engaging in some of our favorite outdoor activities!

We have a creek near our house and stop by a few times a week to watch the tadpoles grow larger and track their metamorphosis into adult frogs. Following a rainy day, we love to look for worms on the sidewalk, too. Our other favorite outdoor activities include scavenger hunts and nature walks in the woods where we search for animal tracks and speculate which types of animals live in various different woodland habitats.

But as you might expect, these activities hold little interest for my teenagers.

Fortunately, I found the activities on The Outsideologist Project Facebook page and The Outsideologist Project Instagram page, and all four of my kids are having a blast with them! Our first project was to design our own sundial using painted rocks (my tween step-daughter happily embraced this project) and study the position of the sun throughout the day to determine where to position the rocks piqued the interest of my teenaged boys.

You certainly don’t need an Outsideologist Project kit to explore the great outdoors, but their activities sure do make it more fun! The makers of Claritin® have given Macaroni KID 25 kits filled with items to inspire their next outdoor adventure to share with subscribers. Enter now to win, and we can't wait to see you #GetOutside!
