NUK Smoothie and Baby Food Maker Review

Make your own baby food inexpensively!

I am a busy mama of four, so I definitely didn't plan on making baby food for my 7-month old twins. Recommendations have changed, as they seem to do all the time, and instead of starting them on baby food between 4-6 months, they want you to wait until six months to begin. There is a definite difference between starting a 4-month old and a 6-month old on baby food. At six months, there is no question that they are ready to eat! We were only into the first week, and they were going through those jars of food like crazy. Not just one baby was loving food, but two! I really don't have time to run to the store to constantly buy packages of baby food. And this was getting expensive — fast!

The NUK Smoothie and Baby Food Maker showed up just in time! I had a bag of frozen green beans in the freezer. I cooked them as per the package instructions, let them cool, then threw them into the Nuk, which looks like a small blender. You pour your food into the blending cup and twist it on, and it starts automatically. Make sure you add the water that you boiled the veggies in. You need the water to blend, and it gives you the perfect consistency. Plus, that water contains any nutrients that cooked out. It was really simple. I let it cool according to the instructions (that is what took the longest). Otherwise, you could do this in just 10 minutes.

The NUK Smoothie and Baby Food Maker comes with the blender and blender bowl and one smoothie sippy cup that attaches directly to the blender for less clean up. There are also convenient little bowls included to store the food in — there are three different sizes with lids (two of each) — and they are microwave-safe, freezer-safe, and dishwasher-safe.

For just $1 for the bag of frozen vegetables, I got about eight servings. That is a huge savings!! That's what you'll pay for just one package of food. So far, I have made two batches of green beans and peas. As the babies continue to try more foods, I will be making more. I'm not sure how to cook squash for babies, so I need to read up on that, as well as some other veggies that aren't just as easy as cooking a frozen bag of food. We also just planted a garden so I can't wait to make my babies food straight from there! If you make your own food, please feel free to add any tips in the comments below.

The NUK Smoothie and Baby Food Maker is really simple to use and offers busy parents a simple way to make their own food. My babies give it two thumbs up — well, make that four thumbs, since there are two babies loving their food.
