Disney Frozen: Olaf's Quest

A Macaroni Dad Review...with a lot of help from an 8 year-old.

December 3, 2013
Seriously, asking Macaroni Dad to review a video game is like asking a snowman to review knitting needles. And having my eight year-old daughter review the game is only slightly more useful thanks to her one word answers to my questions...But here's the solution...Having me review my daughters' enjoyment of playing the game.

Disney Frozen: Olaf's Quest is a new game from Game Mill for the Nintento DS and 3DS.  According to Nintento "Every day is a snow day with Disney Frozen: Olaf's Quest, the new, puzzle platformer video game based on the animated movie of the same name from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures! Following the events of the film this original adventure throws the focus to Olaf, the happy-go-lucky snowman, as he tries to hold himself together through all the perilous situations he stumbles into."

According to Maddie, the game is fun and entertaining. There's not much of a story, something about Olaf getting flowers for Anna, but not much there. Mostly it's Olaf jumping and grabbing snowflakes and flowers. And that's where the fun is. The game is much like Kirby's epic yarn. Olaf doesn't "die" for mistakes, but simply loses snowflakes or flowers. This keeps the frustration factor very low.

It has 60 "bite sized" levels that take a few minutes to complete, ideal for short attention span kids, as well as playing in short stints.

As you tackle different levels, you collect stars which can be used to customize Olaf. Something that appealed to my little fashion-diva. Olaf is as adorable as ever, and so far Maddie has gotten several hours of game play from the game and is not yet done.

As a dad, it's nice to see a fun game that entertains my daughter. Based on her experience, I give Olaf's Quest four Daisies (out of five). It's a good game to keep your child entertained this holiday season when you are in the car or plane going "over the river and through the woods".
