Every child deserves a birthday. That’s the idea that sparked event planner and mom Paige Chenault to launch The Birthday Party Project. A nonprofit organization based in Texas, The Birthday Party Project partners with homeless shelters and transitional living facilities in eight major metropolitan areas to throw monthly themed birthday parties for children.
Birthday parties include all the traditional fun of activities and crafts, decorations, games, cupcakes and party favors. A birthday gift and a birthday badge are given to each child celebrating a birthday that month.
Costs of each party range based on the number of children attending, so The Birthday Party Project relies on donations to help support its celebratory mission. Gifts large or small are welcome, or even the idea of making a gift in honor of someone. Ninety percent of all donations go directly toward throwing, hosting, and executing the birthday parties. Learn more about how your donation can help on their website.
The Birthday Party Project also has a special ”Share Your Birthday” program where you can choose to fundraise for your birthday, or collect gifts for The Birthday Party Project at your party—a great way to get your Mini Macaronis involved in giving back.
Founded in 2012 in Dallas, Texas, The Birthday Party Project, thanks to the generous support of volunteers (called birthday enthusiasts), has celebrated 1,900 birthdays with more than 15,000 children in attendance. Partnerships expanded beyond Dallas-Fort Worth and now exist in Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, New York City, San Francisco, and Kansas City.
"Because of the incredible support of our birthday enthusiasts around the country, we’ve been able to expand our impact quickly," said Chenault. "We are thrilled to have such talented partners and generous enthusiasts to help us expand our mission. On any given night, we have multiple parties happening across the country. It is so cool to know we can be a force of JOY to children everywhere!"
