Feeding America Encourages Families to Pledge to Volunteer

March 1, 2016
Feeding America® has a challenge for families this year – pledge to volunteer at a food bank in your community!

There are 48 million people, including 15 million children, who face hunger in our country. Families in communities all across the nation are struggling to put food on the table, and it’s a bigger issue than you may think. But there’s something that all of us can do to help provide hope and feed our neighbors in need.

The message from Feeding America is simple: It doesn’t take a big commitment to make a big difference.

Together, with millions of other volunteers, your time adds up to help the Feeding America network of food banks serve more than 46 million people each year through 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, more than half of which rely entirely on volunteers to meet local families’ needs. And there’s still much work to be done – that’s where you and your family come in!

This April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month. As the country prepares to celebrate the importance of volunteering, Feeding America asks us to seize the moment to make a real difference. As parents, we have the opportunity to set a great example for our children by volunteering and making an impact in our community together.

Visit the Feeding America website to get started and make your pledge to volunteer today.

The Feeding America nationwide network also supports programs that improve food insecurity; educates the public about the problem of hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. Individuals, charities, businesses, and government all have a role in ending hunger.

Their final message: Donate. Volunteer. Advocate. Educate. Together we can solve hunger.
