3 Things We Know About Valentine's Day

By Joyce Shulman February 14, 2017

Though the origin of Valentine’s Day is murky, here are three things we know:

King Henry VII first declared February 14 a holiday in honor of St. Valentine in 1537.

Women prefer chocolate over flowers … but barely – it was 48% flowers to 52% chocolate in a Macaroni Kid poll of more than 1,200 women.

According to the History Channel – though why they would know we can’t imagine - more than 58 million pounds of chocolate and more than $8,600,000 worth of sparkling wine is purchased during the week leading up to Valentine’s Day.

What we know for sure is that Valentine's Day is a great day to tell the people you love that you love them.
