I failed computer science in college. Yup, got a big fat F. Studied my brains out, however Fortran programming was not for me. That was back when the years began with a 19 instead of a 20, so no big deal. Nowadays, Gen Z kids (our kids) are practically born with a cell phone in their hand. And according to The Conference Board, computing jobs are the number one source of new wages in the US, so apparently they better be good with devices.
But most schools don't even teach computer science. My son's computer science class last year only had 4 kids in it! Where's the disconnect? But you can get your kids some computer training for free during this last stretch of summer. Microsoft Stores around the country offer free "Summer Camps" and classes that expose kids to new skills and technology.
Registration is open at all Microsoft Store locations. Maybe if they had this when I was a kid I would have passed that class.
