Walk Your Way to Better: How a Simple Walk a Day Can Change Your Life

MacKid founder Joyce Shulman's new book is a literal step-by-step guide to fulfilling your dreams

By Joyce Shulman February 4, 2020

I've been a writer as long as I can remember. In fact, I vividly recall the first stories I wrote in elementary school. I remember what they were about, I remember the little books we wrote them in, and most importantly, I remember the feeling when my thoughts tumbled out onto paper and, somehow, miraculously came together into a story.

Who remembers specific moments of learning and creation from elementary school? Is that typical? I have no idea, but I do know I don't have those kinds of memories about learning math or science.

Over the years, I've written parts of books, drafts of screenplays, and more articles and blog posts than I can even begin to count.

But just this month my first book was published. In 99 sections -- because 99 is my favorite number -- I share thoughts, research, wisdom, and idea starters, all intended to help you shift the patterns of your life and to really begin striding toward the things you want.

If you've been following Macaroni Kid for a while, some of it might be familiar to you because I talk about themes and tell some of the stories I've shared with our readers over the last decade. But lots of it will also be new and fresh and -- I hope -- inspire you to take the steps you need to take to have the life you want to have.

My first book, called "Walk Your Way to Better," is available now -- right now -- on Amazon. I'm proud and nervous.

Thank you all for being my inspiration and for supporting me as I continue to chase my dreams and encourage you to chase yours.

Joyce Shulman is the founder of Macaroni Kid and 99 Walks.

Her new book, "Walk Your Way to Better" is a book about walking your way to better. Everywhere you turn, people, podcasts, and gurus promise a simple path to the life you want. But few of them work. Why? Because simply reading the words is rarely enough to call your heart and mind to action. This book is different. Each section provides a thought-starter, insight, or story.

But she doesn’t just want you to just read it. Joyce wants you to read a section and then lace up your sneakers and head out the door. Because while walking, your brain processes in a unique way, enabling you to recognize the things that are truly holding you back and the changes you actually need to make. You will literally Walk Your Way to Better. Along the way you will forge a powerful connection between your mind and your body. And bonus -- you’ll feel better and become fitter.
