Splat Lab, in Brooklyn, N.Y. is hosting a free online event to celebrate Groundhog Day. There's a twist! The groundhog will decide what craft kids do for this event.
From Splat Lab: What does the groundhog say? This year for Groundhog Day, we at Splat Lab are paying very close attention. Will there be 6 more weeks of winter with his shadow, OR is spring fast approaching without one?
Depending on Puxatawny Phil’s reaction, we will do ONE of TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT projects! If Phil sees his shadow, we will be making Shaving Cream Snow to celebrate more winter! If he doesn’t see his shadow, we will make colorful Coffee Filter Flowers to welcome in spring! We will only find out on Groundhog Day itself, so be sure you are keeping an eye on the news so you know what project to expect!
Each Splat Lab virtual class features a Main Splat project and ends with a Splat Challenge that continues the activity into everyday life!
What To Bring
IF SIX MORE WEEKS OF WINTER:
- Shaving Cream (foamy, like Barbasol)
- Baking Soda
- Water
- A small cup
- A bowl
- A plate
- Food Coloring (optional)
IF SPRING IS ON THE WAY:
- Basket Coffee Filters
- Different colors and writing utensils (markers both washable and permanent , oil pastels, etc)
- A couple disposable plates
- Water in a spray bottle (in an eye dropper too, if available)
- Small paperclips
- Pipecleaners (popsicle sticks and pencils also okay)
Notes
Students must have the materials required for class. All material required is usually easily available at home!
This class will be hosted on Zoom video conferencing platform. You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions. We recommend you make sure your device is up to date and meets all system requirements before class.
