Description

Learn all about Kwanzaa at this annual Kwanzaa 101 virtual event.

From Durham Family and Cultural Centre: Join Durham Family and Cultural Centre for our annual online Kwanzaa 101! Presented in partnership with Pickering Public Library.

Together, we will explore the origin, history, and significance of Kwanzaa and how we can apply the Nguzo Saba (The Seven Principles) in our everyday lives.

Kwanzaa is an African American and pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community, and culture. This 7-day cultural festival takes place from December 26th to January 1st.

During the holiday, families and communities reflect and organize around the Seven Principles: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).

This event is for all ages!
